Top 10 summer beauty tips
Summer is coming. You expose your feet for the first time in months and panic, your hair seems dull and boring, your make up starts to look just wrong. You need a summer re-vamp!
This doesn’t take much time or money. You don’t need to go spending a small fortune. Just take my top 10 summer beauty tips and you will be amazed at how good you look and feel. Prepare yourself for summer at a fraction of the cost.
1. Your hair seems dull and boring. Have you ever thought of lightening it naturally? Rub a lemon through your hair, and sit in the sun for a couple of hours. The combination of the lemon juice and the sun will give you beautifully natural sun kissed locks.
2. Sun, sea and sand are a powerful cocktail for drying out your hair. You don’t need to spend money on hair masks – having washed your hair, simply run conditioner through your hair, brush it through and leave for a few hours. This is an excellent way to condition your hair for summer you can do this on a weekly basis to keep your hair more manageable and less damaged.
3. Your feet may feel like something out of Jurassic Park but you may not be able to treat yourself to a monthly pedicure, as recommended. Although I do recommend a good pedicure monthly or at least by-monthly, it is not always possible. Not having the money to pay for a pedicure is simply no excuse. In between professional pedicures you should DIY to maintain those beautifully polished feet. Scrape that hard skin away, moisturise daily to soften the soles of your feet, file your nails right back (be sure to file straight across), apply a couple of coats of nail polish (make sure you apply a base coat, to prevent staining the nail) and you will not recognise your own feet!
4. We are all guilty for neglecting our feet in winter. Prepare them now so it won’t be such a challenge come beach time. In addition, an excellent way to soften the skin and cuticles of feet or hands is to coat your hands / feet in a good rich moisturiser, cover them with Glad Wrap, then cover in plastic bags. Finally cover them in with socks. (Yes even your hands). As silly as you feel, your feet / hands and surrounding cuticles will be beautifully soft and moisturised the next morning.
5. Invest in a good SPF for both face and body. You need to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. I cannot stress the importance of sun protection. This is one thing which I especially do not recommend you scrimp and save on. Particularly for facial protection, opt for something that contains iron or zinc oxide as its main ingredient. Both provide an excellent protective barrier.
6. Put your lippies in the fridge. During the summer, your lipsticks will melt and go to mush. Avoid this by storing them in the door of the fridge.
7. Less is often more. As you all know ladies, during the summer your make-up literally melts off your face. Nobody finds this attractive. A simple sun kissed look with minimal make up is far more attractive than a sweaty looking woman with make up dripping from her forehead to her chin in seconds. Keep it all to a minimum. We all vary in what we consider minimal make up. Particularly during the summer I keep it to a minimum. At night time I will pay more attention to my eye area but certainly not during a hot summers day. Make up and a hot summers day is a bad combination so avoid this scenario ladies.
8. Beauty comes from within. Drink plenty of water to re-hydrate yourself. Eat even more fresh fruit and veg. Fresh juices and smoothies are a good way to increase your intake of fresh fruit and / veg. Think of yourself as a car. If you put bad fuel in, it will not function properly. You are what you eat!
Your skin will dry out from exposure to sun and seawater. Ensure to moisturise regularly to avoid this.
9. If you have old bikinis, tops, skirts etc. don’t throw them out. Dye them. You can be creative by tie dying them or even just altering them with pretty beads, sew on patterns etc. Bring them to life this summer.
10. Look after your skin. The key to good skin is to ex-foliate, moisturise and protect. You must invest in a professional facial on a regular basis. We only have one face, so treat it with the respect which it deserves. Besides, what is more relaxing than a pampering facial. Don't forget, if you feel good, you look good.
